Brother of a trainer and nephew of a trainer, Brooklyn-born Tom Albertrani began his Thoroughbred career as a groom and hot walker at age 13. He went on to be a jockey, amassing 49 wins and over $500,000 in earnings over a six-year span. He then became assistant trainer to some of the nation’s top horsemen, including Hall of Famers Bill Mott, P.G. Johnson, Jack Van Berg, and LeRoy Jolley. For 10 years he worked exclusively for the Maktoum family’s Godolphin, and was based in Dubai. By 2005, he had returned stateside and opened a public stable. Albertrani garnered national attention in 2006, as the trainer of Preakness Stakes winner Bernardini. In 2009, he has a 50% in the money percentage, and his current stakes winners include Padua Stables’ Duke of Homberg (GB).
